James Donaldson is a Washington State University graduate (class of 1979) who went on to a distinguished professional basketball career spanning more than a decade. He played for the Seattle SuperSonics, San Diego/Los Angeles Clippers, Dallas Mavericks, New York Knicks, and Utah Jazz in the NBA, as well as in European leagues and with the Harlem Globetrotters.
James was named to the 1988 NBA All-Star Game and was inducted into both the Pac-10 Sports Hall of Fame and the Washington State University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006. He is also the founder and former owner of The Donaldson Clinic and has been a long-time community leader in the Seattle area.
James has spoken publicly about his personal experiences with anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation. He now uses his platform to advocate for mental-health awareness and suicide prevention — particularly among youth, student-athletes, and underserved communities.
